Outsourcing is essential to most companies when searching for logo designers or SEO marketers. HOWEVER how far would you go with outsourcing?
Like any good company, you HAVE to look at pro’s & con’s of outsourcing and calculate if it’s worth it in the end. It’s easy to get multiple logo designs from outsourcing at cheap prices when you outsource abroad, for example, a lot of companies outsource to India for their logo’s to be created. This type of outsourcing MAY save you money but the risks that are attached are far worse than spending a little extra for peace of mind.
1. Loss Of Control – Outsourcing for creative purposes is often because you don’t have an in-house designer, especially if your company isn’t in the design sector e.g. labourer, then you’ll have no need for an in-house designer. This is when the loss of control can occur, if you’re not able to oversee the creative process or have input in the starting point of the design then loss of control is a HUGE issue. You may think you have no clue about how to design or the process but you know more about your company than your outsourced designer. If your designer isn’t available to send updated or have in-depth research of your company due to location then your logos/rebranding may be cheap but guaranteed it won’t have the positive impact you need.
2. Quality Problems – Your company has standards to keep, ones that you have built up and taken time to put into place, quality control before products or posts are released to the public. All these quality controls need to be in place even during your design processes, outsourcing too far or too cheap can lead to sloppy practices, templates and unfriendly designs. For example, if your company has a specific style you’d like to capture in your rebrand then straying too far to outsource could be detrimental to your business.
3. Communication – Similar to loss of control, having no communication with your designer should be a HUGE red flag to you. Although it seems easy to give your design responsibilities to another company (and if you pick the correct company then you’re correct, it IS easy as it can be) if you pick the wrong company then you are in trouble. This isn’t trying to scare companies into not outsourcing because it is essential when designing logo’s, websites etc BUT the less communication you have with your designers then the less likely your logo or rebrand will be recognised by your long standing customers. Imagine having a design created that doesn’t reflect your business AT ALL and you had paid for this services, it would be detrimental to clients, your time frame and if a relaunch has been marketed then people will be waiting for the designs to be released. THIS RISK is too high to take when your whole company identity rests on this.
Overall, outsourcing is essential but PLEASE do your research before you choose cheap labour over quality labour.
